The Salvation Army usually asks for a photo ID, proof of where you live (a lease, utility bill or mail from the school or a government office), and for each child a birth certificate or custody papers, clothing and shoe sizes, and a toy wish. Donors only ever see the child's first name and wish list.

Wishes for Little Hearts helps McCurtain County families who need a little extra joy at Christmas. Applications opened October 26. Pick one up at Gutter Chaos, 25 Orca Rd in Hochatown, and turn it in by November 16.
It goes with Heroes and Handshakes: Wish Upon a Christmas Star, a free family Christmas day at Gutter Chaos on Saturday, December 19, starting at 11 AM, with gift grab bags, cookies from Mrs. Claus, letters to Santa and a meet and greet with local heroes.

How to adopt an angel
In a store: pick an angel tag off the tree, shop for the clothes and toys on it, and bring the gifts back unwrapped to the store's collection bin or to the Salvation Army address on the back of the tag. Walmart and Sam's Club stores host Salvation Army Angel Trees, and the Salvation Army's Walmart Angel Tree page has a map of the stores taking part, with more added every Wednesday.
Online: use Walmart's Spark Good registry, pick the McCurtain County Salvation Army unit, and Walmart ships the gifts straight to them. You can also call the Idabel office at (580) 286-6472 and ask how to adopt a local angel or drop off gifts.
